Spring Assembly has started

The opening of the spring assembly took place yesterday. This is the last assembly for the parliament in 2008-2012. People who attend the opening were the Prime Minister of Mongolia, Members and Ministers of the Parliament, Heads of State Agencies, and Foreign Embassies residing in Mongolia. President Ts.Elbegdorj was not present for he is currently visiting the Kyrgyz Republic.

The only speaker at the opening was the Speaker of the State, Great Khural D.Demberel. In his speech he said that the assembly will be fast paced, so that participants should strive to be as responsible and productive as possible.

He also reminded us that the parliament has and is doing everything in its power to ensure the prosperity of the nation and its people. An example of this is the Mongolian economy. This has been increasing steadily, and last year’s economic growth was 17%. This year’s economic plan is set and its growth remains steady.

The main issue we are facing is the equal distribution of the national resource wealth. Wages and pensions have increased rapidly in the last year, average wages for the state’s employees has increased from MNT 300 thousand a month in 2008 to MNT600 thousand in 2011, and pensions have increased MNT 85 thousand a month in 2008 to MNT 190 thousand a month in 2011. Also the statistics show that the monthly MNT21 thousand from the Human Development Fund has helped many lower income households in Mongolia. In total we are distributing MNT 1.7 trillion. Investments have tripled since 2008. Lastly he noted that the parliament manage their time and work well to get as much done as possible before the elections.

There are 11 main topics on the agenda of the spring assembly.
