Situation aggravated in Mongolia after arrest of ex-President

The situation has been drastically aggravated in Mongolia following the arrest of ex-President Nambaryn Enkhbayar.

According to the local mass media, a combined commando unit of police and security service officers stopped his car and engaged his bodyguards in a scuffle.

The former national leader escaped and hid in a nearby building. However, the commando unit forced their way through the bodyguards and arrested former President Enkhbayar.

The arrest came as a result of the acute standoff between the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party, led by Enkhbayar, and the Democratic Party of the current Mongolian President, Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj.
