The Prime Minister welcomes delegates of regional conference

The Prime Minister and head of the National Committee on Gender Sukhbaatar Batbold welcomed delegates of the Asian regional conference on women"s political participation themed “Charting a path for political equality in Asia” opened on Tuesday in Ulaanbaatar. Sukhbaatar Batbold said it is important to ensure the gender equality in all spheres so that to make the economic growth real, create a sustainable and eco growth, provide everyone with health, education, good income and livelihood.

Co-organized by the National Committee on Gender at the Government of Mongolia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this conference has brought together parliamentarians from 11 countries, governmental and civil society delegates, officials and experts from the UNDP. The key objective of the conference is to design a national strategy for improving political participation of the Asian women.

The Premier noted that the men and women ratio in their involvement in school teaching, in salaries is equal, and that the gender equality at other sectors is ensured here, but the women"s participation in the legislative level is still low. "Our government attaches a great importance to ensuring of the gender equality and to strengthening of laws for women. Parliament approved a draft law on ensuring the gender equality initiated by the cabinet, and thus a quota of women has been reflected in the election law," he said.
