DP FACTION TO PM: REASONS WHY TWO ELECTIONS CAN BE RUN AT THE SAME TIME

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Members of the Democratic Party's faction at the State Great Khural sent on Wednesday to S.Batbold PM their explanation as to why it is not troublesome to run parliamentary and local elections at the same time.

The faction considers that running the elections this way has several advantages--"a participation of electors will dramatically increase, a legitimacy of law-making and regional administrative bodies will be strengthened, plus, it will be much easier for people to use one voting paper only because the papers can be counted by one kind of machine," the faction says.

As Mongolia is one of the highest literacy-rate countries (98.7%), there is no problem for voters with writing and with their intelligence, the went on. In order not to overload elections sections and not to be bound by exact number of electors for each section and by closing time, as says the law on parliamentary election--soum to have up to 2,000 voters, an aimag center--up to 2,500, the city district--up to 3,000 voters--it is possible to increase numbers of election sections and facilities; besides, there is no need to create constituencies and election committees for each of the elections, the faction says.

The ballot papers can be printed in a short time in several versions by utilizing the latest technologies (digital printer), and a distribution of the smart ID cards can be distributed firstly from the most populated areas of aimags and the city "because it will help stop cheating or fraud during the elections", the DP faction thinks.
