CONSTRUCTION OF INT'L AIRPORT BEGINS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Prime Minister addressed a ceremony that took place on Monday to lay a foundation stone of a new international airport in Khoshigt valley, Tov aimag.

S.Batbold pointed out that this work has been reflected in the 2008-2012 governmental action program, within a development of infrastructure sector. He said the government of Mongolia established an agreement on a soft-loan with Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) in 2008 for erecting this airport, a construction of which costs JPY 28.8 billion. This airport will bring Mongolia's air transport sector into an international level and will ensure a sustainable development of this sector, he added.

The Premier noted that a big center for autoroad, railway and freight will be created near the airport, a satellite town with a population of over 100,000 people will be erected connected to the UB city's infrastructure. In addition, the airport will give opportunities to make transit flights to Western Europe, North America and Southeast Asia.

A construction has started of a dam which protects from floods, also of electric transition lines of 110 kilowatt and fiber optic cable of communication.

The airport is to be constructed in Khoshigt valley of Tov aimag some 60 km from the UB city, its terminal will have a capacity of taking 1,100 passengers an hour.

Present at the ceremony were M.Enkhbold, the Deputy Premier; N.Enkhbold, Su.Batbold, D.Dondog MPs; Takenori Shimizu, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia; Toshinori Isogai, a chief representative of the JICA to Mongolia; and other officials.
