Altantuya's dad: Najib "ran away" from me but I still want to meet him "father to father"

Murdered Altantuya Shaariibuu's father may wish to meet with Prime Minister Najib Razak, but the Malaysian leader who has been accused of having an affair with the beautiful Mongolian girl before passing her over to his close friend Razak Baginda is unlikely to want to meet the older man.

In fact, Setev Shaariibuu, a university professor, said as much when he revealed that Najib had "ran away" the last time he asked for a meeting.

“The last time I wanted to meet him but he ran away. The people of Malaysia support me and I want to go further to ensure this case is sped up,” Setev told a press conference at the Parliament lobby on Monday.

Setev is here on a 3-day visit to chase for justice for his daughter, who was brutally killed in a jungle clearing in Selangor in 2006 and her body exploded with military-grade explosives to prevent identification.

Till now, the Shaariibuu family has not been allowed to take her remains home for burial as the two former bodyguards of Najib and wife Rosmah Mansor found guilty of her murder are appealing their death sentence.

Najib's former bodyguards: All trails lead to the PM

The fwo former elite cops were sentenced to hang for killing Altantuya in April 2009, and their appeal, like most facets of this mysterious case, has been delayed and shrouded in secrecy. Najib and his ruling party have been accused of pulling all strings to cover up the case.

Although the two cops may have killed Altantuya, few Malaysians believe they acted on their own and like Setev, they have been pushing the government for a full investigation into the possibility that someone had ordered the killing.

Altantuya is believed to have acted as a translator to Baginda in the RM7bil Scoprenes acquisition by the Malaysian government in which Najib was accused of receiving a RM570mil kickback. She was blackmailing Baginda for her share of this commission when she was killed.

Baginda, who admitted being Altatuya's lover, was also charged for abetting the murder but was acquitted. He admitted it was Najib's aide-de-camp Musa Safri, who had recommended the two cops to help him stop Altanutya from harassing him and his family.

No, I was not paid to keep quiet

On Monday, Setev again appealed to Najib's good side to help resolve his daughter's murder.

"As a father, he can understand my grief of losing a child better. I want to say to him — I am not meeting you as the PM. I am meeting you as a father, as a man. Father to father, you can understand what I feel,” he said.

Setev also chided the Najib administration for not responding to the numerous diplomatic notes sent by the Mongolian embassy for investigations to be re-opened. Setev denied talk that he had been paid by Najib's government to keep quiet on the case

“I am very surprised that the Malaysian government, in this past six years, has not responded to the notes. It cannot be that they have not received it,” Setev said.
